Welcome back to NHS! Here are a few reminders and guidelines for you and your parents. If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected].
Being a member of the National Honor Society is an honor and should not be taken lightly. Members should represent the best Pine City High School has to offer to the world by being good examples of leadership and character, as well as scholarship, both at school and in the community.
* NHS meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month. Attendance at meetings is required. If you cannot attend, you need to let Mrs. Engelstad know at least 24 hours in advance.
* Service hours are required. Sophomores are required to complete 12 hours, juniors are required to complete 15, and seniors are required to complete 20. Service hours must be turned in at each monthly meeting for the month prior to that meeting. Hours will not be accepted for more than the one previous month.
* Prior approval is necessary for ALL hours other than those given at meetings.
* Forms are available in Room 135 at all times, and hours can be turned in any time prior to meetings.
A Note About Character:
As you should know, CHARACTER is one the the four tenets of NHS members. To clarify my expectations, I have listed some things that I would find inappropriate for members of this organization:
1) disrespect of teachers, coaches, administrators, or other authorities
2) misbehavior of any kind in the classroom, the school, or other school functions
3) bullying of any one in any form
4) use of alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs
5) stealing (including cheating or plagiarism in any form) or any other illegal behaviors.
Any of these infractions could result in immediate termination of membership. All teachers, administrators, and guidance office personnel will have a list of members. I will be notified of any misconduct and will not tolerate it. Typically NHS members do not have these kinds of issues, and I do not expect to have any this year from any of our current members. Let's make it a great year!
