College Prep II
College Prep II will reinforce concepts learned in College Prep I. Readings may include such classics as A Tale of Two Cities, Hamlet, Frankenstein, The Catcher in the Rye, Pride and Prejudice, and possibly a novel of choice from the following: The Jungle, The Stranger, Beloved, Grapes of Wrath, The Good Earth, and In Cold Blood. Students will continue to analyze literature through writing, as well as continue to work on in text citation. Critical thinking will be stressed along with continued emphasis on mechanics and reading skills. This class also has the expectation that the students will be doing the reading entirely outside of class, leaving time in class for discussion and other activities. Students will create a portfolio based on current MLA rules and citation. Preparation for the ACT test will continue in College Prep II.
Grades: Grading will be determined by daily classwork, homework, quizzes, tests, and writing assignments. Grades are a fixed percentage with 90-100% for an A, 80-89% for a B, 70-79% for a C, and 60-69% for a D. It is expected that all work will be turned in on time. Students might possibly arrange time with the teacher to make up late work for reduced credit as determined by the teacher. Students who are absent will have the allotted time to complete work as stated in the handbook.

Classroom Management Plan
Expectations: Be prompt, be responsible, be attentive, and be considerate.
Technology Device Policy:
As a member of a 1:1 program, it is your responsibility to bring your device to class each day, charged and ready for use. Failure to do so may result in a loss of daily points due to the inability to complete work. Repeated offenses may result in detention or parent contact.
Absentee Policy:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get assignments and complete them in a timely manner. Assignments will be posted on the bulletin board. If there are questions concerning the work, see me the day of your return. As stated in the student handbook, you have two days for each day of absence to make up work. However, if you are absent only on the day of a test or the day an assignment is due, you will be required to take the test or turn in the work immediately upon your return. School policy on semester classes states that 12 unauthorized absences in one semester will result in a No Grade for that quarter. Any authorized days that result in the total number of absences exceeding 12 must be made up at the teacher’s convenience. Three tardies to class count as one absence. Your attendance is vital to your education.
